Locations and Alliance Contacts    Forming an Alliance

The Action Is In the Alliances

We believe that when neighbors gather because of an interest in taking care of their woods they can strengthen the relationships that will help build a sense of community. The forest will be healthier and so will their communities. The activities of our alliances have three aspects, educational, social and community projects.

Our educational activities include educational field days that feature a variety of topics like planting seedlings, planting prairies, learning how to recognize exotic invasive species and what to do about them, understanding gypsy moth and oak wilt, and thinning ones’ woods to allow the remaining trees to be healthier. The list is almost endless.

A social aspect, like a potluck dinner or cookout, is present in many of our activities. We have also had community pig roasts, candlelight skiing, "Walks in the Woods" and work/fun days where we assist fellow members with a woodland project and finish it off with a cookout.

Some community civic activities include planting Christmas trees with the Boy Scouts for future Christmas tree sales, planting trees along Highway 10 and the Friendship trail, working on the Ice Age trail, and donating firewood for a silent auction for a civic event.

As you can see, many of our events incorporate all three aspects of activities, educational, social and community projects. These events demonstrate how sustainable forestry can strengthen our community relationships and our communities.
